The former lawmaker, born on May 21, 1941, in Basang, Obudu Local Government Area of Cross River State, reportedly died in London on Thursday, December 2, 2021 following months at the British capital where he’s been receiving treatment.
Cross River State Governor Ben Ayade confirmed the demise of the former lawmaker on Thursday, December 2.
Mr Wayas emerged as Nigeria’s Senate President in the Second Republic between 1979 and 1983, soon after former Head of State General Olusegun Obasanjo put an end to military rule in the country.
He got elected into the upper chamber of Nigeria’s legislative house on the platform of National Party of Nigeria [NPN] after which he emerged as Senate President.
During his time in the Senate, he represented Ogoja Senatorial District and reportedly had an excellent relationship with deposed former president Shehu Shagari, with who he discussed legislative bills and agreed before they were even introduced.
