Heavy Rainstorm Destroyed Residential Buildings In Kwara.

The last Thursday heavy rain that was characterised by heavy windstorm destroyed no fewer than fifty residential buildings in Ilorin the kwara state capital.

The Chairman of Ifesowapo community in Oke-foma Babalaje in Ilorin South Local Government Area of Kwara State, Alhaji Ayuba Suleiman made this known while speaking with Nigeria RealNews’ reporter at his residence Ilorin on Friday.

He said the majority affected by the rainstorm are lesspriviledged people in the community who could not afford to repair the damaged buildings themselves.

He appealed to the Kwara State Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to assist the rainstorm victims, hinted that accommodation has become difficult for them bdue to the effect of the rainstorm.

Also Speaking with Nigeria RealNews, the Secretary of the community, Mallam Abdulazeez Oladimeji Gobir urged both the federal, state and local governments to come into the aide of the victims.

He noted that majority of those who affected are the downtrodden people in the community who needs government and kindhearted individuals’ assistance on the reconstruction of the damaged houses.

Similar occurrences had happened at Ogidi area in the same local government.

Speaking with our reporter, one of the residents in the area, Mallam Shehu Atanda appealed to the Kwara State Government under the administration of Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq as a matter of urgency come to the aide of the affected persons as rainy season is approaching.

He stressed that some of the victims are facing economic hardships at their respective homes, blaming the bricklayers who handled the construction of the collapsed buildings for lack of professionalism.

A widow, Madam Afusat Abdulganiyu of Pirir’s compound, of Ayekale street Ogidi Ilorin appealed to both the government and individuals to assist her to repair the destroyed house.
“I inherited the house from my late husband who died recently and he left behind eight children for my care”, she lamented.

Another victim, Mallam Isiaka Akande whose house was recently destroyed and renovated by Ifesowapo community association before his house was again blew off by the last Thursday rainstorm appealed to the government for renovation.

He said he has problems of accommodation as there no where to relocate to with his wife and six children, urging the wealthy individuals to help him to get a temporary accommodation as rainy season is approaching.
