Kwara Community policing Flags Off Operations, Promise To Flush Out Criminals

Chairman, Kwara State Community Policing Volunteers, Alhaji Yusuf Jubril Abdullahi said that the establishment of Kwara Community Policing is to integrate the people in their communities into the mainstream of crime control have become necessary.

The chairman made disclosure during the official, launching of the community policing volunteers uniform held at the Emir’s palace in Ilorin on Saturday explained that only those living in the community can effectively fish out criminals residing in their environment.

He said the task of community policing is indeed herclean that requires honestly, steadfastness, total commitment and sacrifice that can also eliminate interference in the control of corruption, favouritism, ethnic, religious bigotry activities in the society.

“It would be an act of sabotage when hide and protect a criminal arrest. I implore all to contribute your own quota towards realising the aims and objectives for establishing the community policing volunteers squad”, he said.

The chairman disclose that the official launching is a manifestation of the long journey that started about nine years ago in reaction to a public disturbance by some hoodlums popularly known as ‘Area Boys’ within Ilorin metropolis.

He reminded that the community policing was initiated by some likemided people with the support of DPO Mukaila Yusuf, Seyi Adebayo, Captain Anayebo, Alabi Amudalat and some others committed individuals in the society.

He reiterated that security is everyone business irrespective of status, age, religion, political belief, urging all that cannot join in the daily operations activities can as well support in terms of financial and logistics aspects.

He emphasized that the Kwara State Community Policing Volunteers is not affiliated to any political party, stressing that the body is purely on tackling security challenges and fully prepare to bring crimes to the bearest minimal in the communities.

He disclosed that the organisation has embarking on series of activities for young ones within the society, such as campaign against violence, human trafficking, drugs abuse, war against cultism, thuggery and hooliganism among the youths.

He appealed to the Kwara State Government, well-to-do and well-meaning kwarans to come in support of the organisation by providing the organisation with logistics and financial for the effective operation.

He however, appreciated the Maritaba, the Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu Gambari for his persisted fatherly support since the inception of the organisation in 2013, the late (rtd) former President, Court of Appeal and pioneer Chairman of ICPC, for his fatherly, moral, and financial support during his lifetime, commending the efforts Kwara State Commissioner of Police, CP EnienboTuesday Assayomo for his untiring dynamic championing the course of community policing.

“It will interest me to inform you that out of 36 States, Kwara Commissioner of Police was the first to embrace community policing volunteers and endure that it’s recognized and fully established in Kwara.

Speaking at the event, the Divisional Police Officer, Oja-oba Ilorin, CSP Mukaila Yusuf, described community policing volunteers as a means to safeguard their environments against any internal and external intruders.
He said in collaboration with police in fighting crime in their jurisdictions, stressing that to execute security policy formulated by such community comes the volunteers both young and old sexes to distinguished themselves in fighting crimes.

“I was firstly posted here as DPO, in 2019, I must confess to you some distruggleed elements took over this area, victimising unsuspecting members of public and making life unbearable for the law abiding people in the community.

” As we are searching for solutions to curb the treats comes as strategy inline with the vision and mission of the Inspector General then to adopt philosophy and concept of community policing which is a collaborative between the police and members the public.

“Swang into action and began sensitisation in conclusion with tranditional rulers, community and religious leaders of various communities within my jurisdiction which eventually led to the mobilisation and formation of community policing in Ilorin metropolis after due consultations.
“DPO stressed that no ones is above the law, Any ones that missuse the uniforms shall be dealt with accordingly”, warned.

He however, commended the efforts of his boss, Kwara State Commissioner of Police, CP Emienbo Tuesday Assayomo for given approval to the uniforms of community policing, advising members of organisation in Ilorin metropolis to always make judicious use of the uniforms.

The Emir of Ilorin was represented by Alanguas Ibagun in Ilorin East Local Government, Alhaji Sakariyah Iyanda Malik, while the Kwara State Commissioner was equally represented by DPO, ‘A’ Division, Mr. O. Onyeabo.

Highlight of the event are launching of organisation uniforms by a member of Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdulkareem Babatunde Paku.
