Improve Schools Sporting Facilities, Kwara ASSPO Urged Govt

The Chairman Kwara Central Chapter of Association of School Sports Official (ASSPO), Mr. Suleiman Yusuf Ademola has called on the state government, Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Kwara State Universal Basic Education and the Teaching Service Commission on the need for improve sporting facilities in schools.

The Chairman made the call while chatting with the RealNews reporter after the association monthly meeting of the association held at the Government Girls Day Secondary School Pakata Ilorin on Wednesday.

He lamented that 99 percent secondary school in kwara central do not have standard sporting facilities in their various schools, pleading for the assistance of both Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sahadat Modibbo Kawu and the Chairman Sports Commission, Mr. Bolakale Magaji on urgent needs for normal timestable for sports activities in the school.

He bemoaned that 30 minutes short period for sports training during the school hours not enough for talented young students to train, pointing out that the issues of game dress has not been properly addressed, disclosing that game dress fee has been clearly written in admission letter.

He appealed to head of school to support the school game masters morally and in financial aspects to give comprehensive sports train for the interested students as many of them are blessed with sports talent.

The Chairman explained that in those days, students wear sports dress to school on sports day but nowadays, no school cares for sports activities, adding that many students excel and becomes somebody in life.

“We have discovered many sports talented students, for example, a girl is in US was discovered through school sports event likewise many others in are England, France, Spain, Italy Greece and others”, he added.

He encouraged parents to allow their interested wards to participate actively in sports as sports can bring cordial relationship, unity and development to country, pointing out that sports can also lead people to success in life.

“We have many sports talented Nigerian playing in US, UK, Germany, France, Belgium, Finland, Kuwait, Tunisia, Egypt, Greece Saudi-Arabia and others”, he stated.
