Kwara Assembly Frowns At Indiscriminate Dumping Of Refuse In Ilorin.

The Kwara State House of Assembly has expressed displeasure over the indiscriminate dump of refuse by the people on the streets of Ilorin, the state capital.
This is sequel to a Matter of General Public Importance raised by member, representing Share/Oke-Ode Constituency, Hon. Owolabi Olatunde Razaq during today’s plenary.
Hon. Owolabi who is the Chairman, House Committee on Health and Environment observed that indiscriminate dump of refuse in the state capital could pose environmental hazard to residents, hence the need for drastic measure to be taken as a matter of urgency.
The lawmaker who itemized Idiape, Oja-Oba, Gambari as most affected areas lamented that the state capital, known as the cleanest city in the country is now defaced with mountain of refuse.


Other Lawmakers who spoke on the matter called for more recruitment of staff to the state Environmental Protection Agency to ensure effective service delivery.
They also advocated sensitization of residents on the benefits of environmental sanitation in a bid to reduce poor refuse disposal to barest minimal in the state capital.
Reading the resolutions of the House, Speaker Yakubu Salihu Danladi called on contractor handling waste management to restrategize its operation to nip indiscriminate refuse disposal in Ilorin in the bud.
The Speaker also charged citizens of the state to imbibe positive environmental sanitation and stressed the need for enforcement of environmental laws to curb the situation.
