Kwara Commissioner Orders Council Workers To Work In Secretariats

The Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Arc. Aliyu Muhammad Saifuddeen has given a marching order to all Local Government Workers, who have been conducting activities of the Councils at their Area Offices to henceforth revert to their Council Secretariats to conduct their official duties.

Arc Saifudeen, who was accompanied by the his Permanent Secretary, Alhaji Abdulrazak Babatunde Alabere and the Director Local Government Affairs,Alhaji Muftau Ibrahim gave the orders when he paid an unscheduled visit to Ilorin East and South Local Government Area Offices situated at Pake in Ilorin metropolis.

The Commissioner disclosed that he was reliably informed that officers, who are meant to conduct their official duties at their various Council Secretariats had chosen to stay in their Area Offices which negates the running of local government administration in its entirety.

His words: “I know the Area Offices were created for some specific purposes and they are expected to report back to their various Secretariats, but most of them had permanently chosen to abscond from their respective Council Secretariats”.

He, therefore, directed all officers who are meant to conduct their official duties at their Council Secretariats to resume there with immediate effect.

The Commissioner explained that among the cabinet responsibilities of his Ministry was to monitor and ensure that activities of all Local Governments in the State are in strict compliance with the rules of their engagements.

The Ministry, he stated further, would commence regular visitations to Council Secretariats to ascertain punctuality of officers at their duty posts, noting that punitive measures would henceforth be applied to erring officers who are not on ground without any justifiable reason in accordance with the Civil Service Rules.

“We are all aware that all the Local Government Councils are now autonomous since the inception of the present administration to conduct their affairs accordingly, including adminstration of their finances without any interference while the Ministry is only preforming its oversight function of monitoring”, Saifuddeen stated.
