Few months after the erstwhile Permanent Secretary, Government House Ilorin, Alhaji Isiak Abubakar bowed out of the state civil service, the management and staff of governor’s office on Wednesday paid a tribute to the retiree’s for ingenuity and good conduct while in office.
This was contained in a statement signed and made available to pressmen in Ilorin on Thursday by the Deputy Chief Press Secretary Government House Ilorin, Mashood Abdulrafiu Agboola.
According to the release, the send-forth ceremony, which was well attended by various heads of departments and units in the government establishment, offered participants an opportunity to share their feelings and give accounts of how the celebrant had fared while he was in active service.
In his remarks, the serving Permanent Secretary, Mr. Joel Asha, serving Permanent Secretary, said Alhaji Abubakar was an intelligent and a treasured officer who must be commended for his efficiency management personnel and other resources.
“Alhaji Abubakar is not just a senior colleague, he was a gatekeeper and indeed a brother’s keeper. He wrote a comprehensive handover note for me because he wants me to succeed as well.
“I read the note on several occasions for proper digestion and to the glory of God it has been my guidance in my actions. He also, normally calls to put me through what he may have noticed to be abnormal. He is a nice predecessor,” Asha confirmed.
“We are celebrating you today and whatever we donate as a gift is to show our appreciation, not what you are worth. We like you, we love you and we wish you well in your retirement.”
He enjoined the staff to borrow a leaf from the retiree’s managerial skills and good conduct including how he used to commit himself to seek a way to make the working environment conducive for all staff.
The Permanent Secretary, while charging the workers to continue to tolerate one another and work as a team, pointing out that the retired permanent secretary was an hard working whose his actions attracted by the tribes or religions of his co-workers.
He described him as a charming character, competence man who always ready to deliver on the set objectives.
Also speaking, the Director of Administration and Finance (DAF), Mr. Mudashir Akorede Adeshina, narrated the hierarchical progression of Alhaji Abubakar’s few of the offices he had served, saying there are a lot of lessons to learn from his attitude to work and good human relations.
He added, those who had worked directly under him will attest to the fact that Abubakar was an outstanding administrator to reckon with, praying God to make his retirement a beginning of joy to his life and the immediate family.
Some of the unit heads, who could not hide their feelings, took turns to eulogize the retiree’s commitment to staff’s well-being and his sensitivity to official complaints, wishing him well after retirement.
Responding, the celebrant, Alhaji Abubakar, who appreciated the Governor, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq for the given him the opportunity to serve under him, expressing his delight over the send-forth arrangement by the management of the government house.
” First and foremost, I want to appreciate His Excellency, the Governor of Kwara state, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for the opportunity given me to work under him. It was an additional package of experience in my life.
“I pray to Almighty God to continue to be with him, wherever he is and wherever he goes. I must say that I am overwhelmed by this arrangement put in place by the Permanent Secretary. I know the Almighty creator will thank you better for me,” he prayed.
He revealed how happy he felt when he was privy to the identity of who was to succeed him at Government House when he almost left, saying his successor, Joel Asha is long known for dedication to work and his focus on getting results.
The celebrant acknowledged that whatever success he might have achieved in the office was as result of the maximum support he enjoyed from the entire staff, asking them to find a place in their hearts to forgive him in case of any transgression in the course of discharging his duty.
Abubakar commended his wife, Justice Aminat who always stand by him with prayer and advice, describing her as his better part.
Highlight of the occasion was the presentation of gifts to the celebrant, in appreciation for his good work in active service.
