This was was sequel to a Motion on Notice titled, “Need For Pragmatic Policy to Enhance Consistent Availability of Oxygen in Hospitals in Kwara State” sponsored by Hon. Owolabi Olatunde Razaq (Share-Oke Consistency), on Wednesday’s plenary
Owolabi noted that being in an era of pandemic which affect the respiratory system, making it difficult for people to breath, having adequate oxygen gas in our hospitals is very essential.
The lawmaker said the economic situation in Nigeria has also led to the rise in the number of health problems, such as asthma, heart failure, heart attack, and chronic diabetes.
He said many people have died of these diseases especially in the last one because oxygen gas are not readily available in our hospitals.
“Therefore, we must do something urgent else our citizens who should be contributing to national development will be dying like fowls.
“This is sad and shameful that the citizens of Nigeria, the so called giant of Africa are dying avoidable deaths that does not happen even in small countries like Benin Republic” he divulged.

Other lawmakers who spoke on the motion frowned at what they called ‘oxygen scarcity’ at both public and private hospitals, advocating for holistic approach towards ensuring availability of oxygen gas for the benefit of COVID 19 patients and other ailments.
Reading the resolutions of the House, Speaker, Yakubu Salihu Danladi urged the state government to identify and invite medical industrialists with Oxygen manufacturing competence for partnership towards oxygen production to guarantee sustainable supply of the product to the hospitals in prevention of avoidable death of patients.
The Speaker also commended Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for his commitment to the improvement of healthcare service delivery in the state since assumption of office.
