The operatives of the Kwara State Nigeria Securit and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Intelligence and Investigations Department has picked up a suspected serial fraudster who has been going around defrauding people of their hard – earned money.
The Kwara State NSCDC Commandant, Mr. Makinde Iskil Ayinla has advised the POS operators and the entire people in the state to be wary of fraudulent act of certain criminal elements who are going around with the intention of defrauding innocent of their money.
The Commandant dropped gave the advice on Friday while confirming the arrest of a 24 years-old, Victor Adebayo, for defrauding POS operators with fake alert.
The suspect was picked up by the intelligence unit of the corps after he had defrauded many unsuspected people of amount more than seven hundred thousand naira( N700,000).
In a press statement signed and made available to newsmen in Ilorin on Friday by the spokesman of the NSCDC in Kwara State, Babawale Zaid Afolabi, said the suspect who claims to be a Lagos based usually send fake alerts to unsuspected POS operators and collect cash from them and disappear into a thin air.
“The suspect usually going around in his Toyota Corolla car in a very neat appearance and send fake transaction on his phone which he has already programmed to POS operators and received cash,” Babawale narrated.
The CDPRO stated further that the suspect has really perfected the dubious act and confirmed to have been doing it for more than two years, adding that sometimes he would pose like a pastor to convince the POS operators or told the operator that his wife is in labour room in the hospital and need certain amount of money urgently.
Meanwhile, some POS operators in Ilorin metropolis have thronged the Kwara Command of the NSCDC trying to catch the glimpse of the serial fraudster and those that have fell victim of the fraudsters before.
