Over Public Disturbances: Kwara Protested Sun Set Teachers Arraigned In Court


Six of sacked sun set teachers that was arrested by the Kwara State Police Command on Wednesday have been arraigned before a magistrate court sitting in Ilorin for criminal conspiracy, disobedience and disturbance of public peace on Thursday.

Earlier, Isiaka Toyin of Alanamu area Ilorin, Mohammad Solihu Olayinka of Owonwami compound Oke-suna area Ilorin, Salaudeen Abubakar of Oke-ose compound Oke-suna area Ilorin, Ibrahim Alabi of Federal Housing Estate Ilorin, Adewale Abdulazeez of Ganiki phase ii Sango area Ilorin and Aransiola Olubukun of Ga’a Akanbi area Ilorin that was arrested by the Police in Ilorin.


The First Information Report of the police said that the Suspects protesters on Ahmadu Bello way defiantly blocked both lanes of the road and all peaceful efforts to get them off the road proved abortive resulting to obstruction of the road.

The case was transferred from the Department of Operations, Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Police Force, in Ilorin to the criminal investigation for discreet investigation charged the Suspects to court for disturbing public peace.

In his submission, the police prosecutor, inspector Adewumi Johnson prayed court not to grant the Suspects bail because granting the suspects bail may jeopardise the ongoing investigations of the police.

The leading others fifteen legal solicitors at trial, Barrister Abdullahi Akewusola applied for  bail application of the suspects because the case is not a criminal, adding that the law allows for the suspects to be granted bail as suspects already promised not to jump bail.

He said all the suspects were never have criminal records and they never been into police station for any criminal offence.

In her rulling, the trial Magistrate, Mrs. A.A. Abioye granted the suspects the sum of two hundred thousand naira with two sureties living within the jurisdiction of the court and one of the sureties must be blood relations of suspects and other surety most be a civil servant in the state civil service.

She however, adjourned the case till 4th of March, 2021 by 11:am.
