Over Protest: Kwara Police Arrests 6 Sun Set Teachers in Ilorin. …They Violated COVID-19 Rules – PPRO

Kwara State Police Command have arrested six members of sun set teachers during their peaceful protest at frontage of Government House along Ahmadu Bello way Ilorin on Wednesday.

It was gathered that six members of affected teachers include nursing mothers and pregnant women who participated in the peaceful protest to the government house Ilorin were arrested by the police.

Speaking with Moonlight, one of Sun set sacked teachers of State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB), Mr. Ibrahim Saheed Olayinka said some of sacked sun set teachers were at frontage of Government House Ilorin staged a peaceful protest to press home for their rights.

He said the protest has begun four days ago but suddenly some armed police from police headquarters came ordered the protesters to disappear and leave the government house, explaining that it was quite unfortunate for the security agents to rough handled the peaceful protesters.

He added that protesters sat on floor at frontage of Government House Ilorin in peaceful protest pleading with His Excellency, the Governor of Kwara State, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to re-consider his stand on the sacked sun set teachers back to the service.

He said “All what we are requesting for is the confirmation of our letters of appointment as promised by the governor.

He disclosed that some armed police men came from police headquarters harassed and molested the peaceful protesters by chased them away with tear-gass and arrested six members.

Olayinka stated that some members that was arrested by the police are Mr. Aransiola Olubukun ‘f’, Salaudeen Abubakar’m,’ Mohammed Soliu ‘m’, Ibahim Alabi ‘m’, Isiaka Toyin ‘m’ an Adewale Abdulazeez ‘m’.

According to him, the sacked sun set teachers are still stand on their demand with pleaded to governor to reinstate them back to the service and order the immidiate release of the arrested members.

He pointed out that it’s unethical for the police to be arresting the innocent people who are clamouring for their rights through peaceful protest as they are law abiding citizens of Nigeria.

“We are not there to distrupt peace of the state, we are not there to fight anyone but we are there to plead with the governor as competent and qualified teachers”, emphasized.

Meanwhile, the Kwara State Police Command in a press statement signed by Police Public Relations Officer, S.P Okasanmi Ajayi on behalf of the Kwara State Commissioner of Police said the police have arrested six suspects regarding to the protest.

The statement said the suspects would soon appear in court for inciting disturbance band violation of COVID-19 protocol as directed by Federal and State Governments respectively.

Its further said the offence was committed in the process of an alleged protest by a group called sun set teachers in Ilorin metropolis, adding that they not only violated the COVID-19 regulations but they also in their multitude blocked the popular Ahmadu Bello way, preventing lawful road users of their rights of passage.

The statement said that the good people of Kwara may recall that the purported protest has been ongoing for almost a week without any interference from security agencies, disclosing that it is the right of every citizen to protest peacefully.

Police noted that where ones right ends another one right starts, therefore, the command will not folds her arms while some people in the guise of exercising their supposed rights compromise the peace in the State.

Cp Mohammed Lawal Bagega wishes to assure no law abiding citizens of their safety at all times while would be law breakers are warned to desist or face the full weight of the law.
