The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Human Capital Developnent, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun has appreciated the old students association of Queen Elizabeth School Ilorin, particular the 1981 set on the renovation of the school dining hall.
Adeosun gave commendation during the commissioning of 2.6 million naira dining hall project constructed by 1981 set in commemoration of their 40 years graduation from the school.
She said the renovation project aligned with Mallam Abdulrahman Rasaq’s administration in creating a conductive learning environment for quality education as required by United Nations.
She commended them for deemed it fit to assist their Alma Mater in renovate the hall, expressing satisfaction with quality job done by the contractor handling the project.
She expressed the readiness of the present government under the administration Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to give support to any institution that prepare to assist itself.
Permanent Secretary who was represented by a Deputy Director in the ministry, Mr. Odedeji Taye maintained that kwara a government appreciated the selfless efforts and contribution of the old students on the developnent of the school.
He however, urged the school management to take the advantage of the magnanimity and courage to maintain the structure and facilities put in place by the old students.
In her address, the supervisor of the project, Hajia Simiat Balogun said it was though at initial of the project, thanking members of 1981 set for their contributors particularly those in diaspora.
“During one of my visits to the school, I met the school kitchen in a deplorable condition. I felt like cry, then I brought the idea of renovation of dining hall to improve on hygienic condition of the students.
She added that since then she knows that the school needs contribution of old Students mostly the school kitchen, stressing that she started calling on other mates to come together to find lasting solutions the school problems.
Hajia Balogun who is also the chairperson of 1981 disclosed that about 2.6 million naira was spent on the project, assuring that more projects would come to the school through 1981 set.
“I thanked all members of the association for their donation towards the project particularly those in diaspora more moral and financial support”, she appreciated.
“I call on other sets to emulate the good gesture of my set to initiate projects that would transform the school into international standards”, she charged.
She advised the school management to protect and maintain the facilities provided, urging all to rally round in support of the school Authority on the provision of more social amenities for the school.
In her good will messages, an active member of the set, Hajia Adewara Sikirat appreciated all that contributed to project for making sure that the completion of the project comes into reality, hinted that more projects would soon spring up in the school.
Also speaking, one of invited guests, Comrade Olateju said the project was comprehensively reconstructed, commending selfless hard work of both junior and senior principals on their determination to move the the school into the next levels.
Earlier in her welcome address, on behalf of the school management, the Principal of senior section, Hajia Sidikat Taye Lawal described the occasion as unique in the history of the school.
She pointed out that 1981 set always leads by example for other sets compare with huge amount spent on the project, stressing that almost all the structures in the school have became obsolete that need attention.
She thanked the Executive Governor of the state, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for given the school new facelift through channelization of roads within the school compound.
“As one of old students of the school, I promised not to disappoint you”, she pledged.
The principal however, solicited for more support and cooperation from all members staff in the coming years to move the college to greater heights, calling on entire old students association of the school not to rest their oars.
Some of the highlights of the occasion include commissioning of the project, inspection of facilities, cultural display by the students of the school and symbolic usage of dinning hall by the students among others.
