Road Accidents A Leading Cause Of Death, Disability – Kayode Alabi


The Kwara State government has charged the State Road Safety Advisory Council to intensify efforts to minimize road traffic accidents in the state.


The Deputy Governor and Chairman of the Council, Mr Kayode Alabi made the charge at its maiden meeting in his office.


Alabi said the Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has reconstituted the council to strategize safety management approaches in the state that will align with the global best practices.


He described traffic accidents as a leading cause of death and disability in adults and children alike.

“Virtually, every family in this country has a sad history of loss or disability of beloved ones through road accidents. The agony of loosing beloved ones through road accidents is unbearable,’ he said.

The deputy governor therefore, sought the support of relevant stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of the council’s strategies for the safety of road users in the state.


The sector commander, Nigeria Road Safety Corp, Kwara State and secretary of the Council, Corps Commander Jonathan Owoade said the Nigeria Road Safety Strategy II spans from 2021 to 2030 is benchmarked against lessons learnt from Strategy I and global best practices.
