The Kwara State Police Command wishes to acknowledge the constitutional rights of citizens to protest if there is cause for it, provided it is peaceful.
The statement was signed and issued to the pressmen by the Kwara State Police command Public Relations Office, SP Ajayi Okasami on Monday in Ilorin said the command wishes to acknowledge the fact that Kwara State Police Command has always exhibited her commitment to protect the rights of every citizens.
The statement further said it can be attested to by the relationship between the police, the youth and student organizations in the state, hence the peaceful engagement at all times.
“The situation in the state for now is not conducive for any procession, considering the security situation and the recent cultist activties which have heightened tension in the minds of some members of the public.
It however, said the situation on ground in the state can’t allow any protest or procession.
The commissioner of police, CP Tuesday Assayomo psc+ is therefore advising the youth and organisers of the proposed protest to shelve the idea, as the Command would not accept breakdown of law and order in the name of #Endsars memorial protest.
The ugly incidents of year 2020 Endsars protest where precious lives and valuable properties of both the government, people and private individuals were viciously destroyed is still fresh in the people’s memories.
The Command is advising parents and guidiance to call their children and wards to order by warning them not to be lured into any protest as the command will not fold its harms while the peaceful and cooperates existence in the State could be jeopardised.
