When Queen Elizabeth School Ilorin, A Citadel Of Learning With A Differenc Commissions Standard Central Mosque

For many years to come, the beautiful stories of Queen Elizabeth School Ilorin central mosque will be continuing to be told and re-told on the lips of old students, parents, students and invited guests and also remain evergreen in their memories.

The school hall was agog and enlived on Friday 4th November, 2021 when the old girls (Muslims) of the school hosted parents, friends of the school and dignitaries across the state and beyond to witness the commissioning of newly renovated school central mosque at well-arranged ceremony held in the school premises.

The old Students of college made another remarkable records to delight of guests as 95 percent of both junior and senior forced themselves to attend the epoch making event.

As early as 10am on that beautiful day, guests and parents from different parts of the country thronged the venue of programmes, students of institution were also elated as they neatly dressed while the old Students also gorgeously dressed in blue and white.

In her welcome address at the gathering, the Principal of school, Hajia Sidikat Taiye Lawal expressed appreciation to old students for comprehensive renovation of the school’s mosque, describing it as one of best school mosque in kwara state.

She said the school is one of the great secondary school in Northern Nigeria, saying that it was not wrong for her to qualify the school with that adjective, pointing out that sincerely speaking the have produced excelled Queens across the world.

She commended the efforts of old girls of the college, assuring that parents would not regret of sending their children to the school.

“I was surprised because I saw more than what I can imagine interms physical development embark upon by the old students. As an old students I always fell proud that I passed through the college”, she boasted.

The principal explained that she was impressed the level of positive competion among the classes to take one project or the others for renovation, elougised the present administration in the state for every support on the college.

She appreciated the donation of the ptrsent governo’s father, late Alhaji AbdulRasaq Ganiyu Folorubsho (SAN) during the foundation laying ceremony of the mosque in 1977 which was completed and commissioned in 1979.

In her good will message, the Commisdioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Sa’adat Modibbo Kawu appreciated old Muslimah of Queen Elizabeth School Ilorin for their financial and human resources contributed to the renovation of the mosque.

The commissioner who was represented by Alhaji Akano Kamarudeen hoped that both staff and students would keep the maintenance culture of the mosque.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the occasion, the former Minister for Economic Planning, Prof. Suleiman Olarewaju Abubakar charged all Muslims to donate to the mosque, maintaining that donation to the mosque is a continuous process.

He pointed out that who ever donated to mosque will get anoundant rewards from God Almighty Allah here and in the last day of judgement, encouraging old students to continue in that direction for them to receive the the favour of Almighty Allah.

Earlier in her speech, the Chairperson of mosque renovation committee, Prof. Nimat Modupe Abdulraheem disclosed that the committee has appealed to old students to contribute12m naira for the renovation exercise, surprising that within one weeks, the money the money was gathered.

She added that the committee thought they could do more, the old students were charged to donate more for the renovation exercise of the mosque by pleading for more donation, disclosing that within another short period, the committee received over 20 million naira from members of old students.

She said that the money has been spent on the purpose, explaining that the mosque have four entrances which include Ahmed, Ali, Abubakar and Usman.

Prof. Abdulraheem who is the first Emirate Professor of Law from the University of Ilorin, thanked all donors for their kindness towards the renovation of the mosque as she is looking forward for more donations from members.

The mosque was commissioned by the former Minister for National Economic Planning, Prof. Suleiman Olarewaju Abubakar while the former Chief Imam of University of Ilorin, Prof. AbdulGaniy Abdulsalam Oladosu led others Muslims faithful in two rakat Juma’at prayer.

Dignitaries at ceremony are the representative of Emir of Ilorin, the first Makama of Ilorin and it’s environs, Alhaji Ibrahim Oniye, the representative of Kwara State Governor, Special Assistant on Islamic Religion to the state governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Dan Maigoro, Kwara State House of Assembly member, Hon. Rasaq Owolabi, Hon. Olawoyin Magaji, Hon. Ambali Ibrahim, Chairman Kwara State House Assembly Commission, Alhaji Femi Yusuf.

Highlights of the occasion include reading from the Holy Qur’an and Hadith by students Amirah of the college, Aminat Abubakar.

Others include, Dr. Folorunsho Ahmed, representative of Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Alhaji Akano Kamarudeen, the Chairman Teaching Service Commission, the Chairman Kwara State Muslims Pilgrimage Board, Alhaji Dr. Sambaki, Alhaji Abubakar Taoheed, Hajia Fatimoh Abubakar, the immidiate past retired senior and junior principals of the school, Hajia Rahmat Abdulrahman and Hajia Mansurat Ogunwale, PTA Chairman, Alhaji Isiaka Salau, serving and retired school’s principals among others invited school’s principals.
