Who Is The New Mutawalle Of Ilorin?


History was recoreded on 31st July, 1956 when New Mutawali of Ilorin (Dr. Muhammed Alimi Abdulrazaq) was born to the family of the first lawyer in Northern Nigeria Alhaji Folorunsho (AGF) Abdulrazaq (SAN) OFR.

Our New Mutawali of Ilorin Emirate, Dr Alimi Abdulrasaq attended the famous capital school, kaduna from where he received his first school leaving certificate and he attended St Gregory’s college Obalende, Lagos for his secondary Education.


Dr Alimi proceeded to the School of Basic studies of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He had his pre-Degree training at the school.

He was the vice-president of the students union at the Ahmadu Bello University Zaria.

He was thereafter admitted for his degree programme at the faculty of law, Institute of Administration, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He pursued his legal training at the end of which, he was found worthy in character and learning, he was awarded LLB (Hons) degree.

The New Mutawali of Emirate, Dr Alimi proceeded to the Nigerian law school Lagos, where he was further grounded in law and He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1978.

He is an alumni of the university of Hull, Uk from where he obtained LLM and Ph.D degree.

He was the founder of the Council for Human Rights which he also served as the pioneer Executive Secretary between 1983 and 1993.

He is a fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, Nigeria and an elected member of the Royal Institute of International Affairs in London.

He has served the nation in several capacities as Commissioner, legal licensing and Enforcement with the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC); Chairman National iron ore mining company, Itakpe kogi state and member (TC) National Council on privatization.

He has attended Executive leadership programs at Harvard Business School, University of Florida, Georgetown university and the Lagos Business School. He is a member of the lnternational Bar Association.

He is the founder and Chairman of Bridge House College, ikoyi Lagos. He is the pioneer recipient of the Alumni Laurette Award of the university of Hull for legal scholarship and educational endowments.

He is the Chairman Board of Directors, forte upstream services limited. He is also the managing partner, House of laws (Advocates and Solicitors) with offices in Lagos and Abuja.
He’s Patron of Gamji foundation, kwara state.

Dr Muhammed Alimi Abdulrazaq, the New Mutawali of Ilorin Emirate is the first son of Ilorin Emirate to hold a doctorate degree in law.

Dr Alimi was also a Gubernatorial candidate on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State in 1999.

He is happily married with children to Mrs Foluke Kafayat Abdulrazaq who is the Group Vice Chairman of Transcorp Nigeria

On Thursday July, 2021 His Royal Highness the Emir of Ilorin announced Dr Muhammed Alimi Abdulrasaq the New Mutawalle of Ilorin Emirate and has approved the 18th of March 2022 for the Royal Turbanning of the New Mutawali of Ilorin Emirate.
