You Have Open Our Eyes, Emir Of Okuta Tells Gov Abdulrasaq

Okuta Town of Baruten local government area was standstill as the good people of the stone Community received the executive Governor of kwara state, Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq for their 2021 annual Gaani Festival.

Gaani Festival is a an ancient event celebrated among the Baatonu and Bokobaru races in Baruten and Kaiama Local governments area of kwara state.

The celebration is usually a gathering for commemorating the birth of prophet Muhammad (May the peace of Allah be with him), displaying the ancient cultures and traditions and for basically initiating the future Queens and Kings of the kingdoms.

The colourful 2021 Annual Gaani Festival in Okuta today was graced by the governor, who was received with the chants “Sai Ramoni”, 4+4 renting the air.

The Emir of Okuta, HRH, Alhaji Idris Abubakar Sero (Serobetete II) whose welcome speech was delivered by the former State Chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC), Alhaji Abdullahi Sanmari, described governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq as a true liberator and eye-opener of kwara North.

He said the administration of Mallam Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq has brought about unprecedented development to Baruten and entire Kwara North.

“Your Excellency, we from Kwara North shall ever be grateful to you and your administration. What you have brought in has been gratefully accepted. You came and within just two and half months, you have started looking at our various previous complaints.

“You have assisted us in drastically reducing among others, the rate of childbirth deaths among our people.

“By your total overhauling and rehabilitation of our primary healthcare centres that have been in moribund for years, we shall no longer travel to the neighbouring Benin Republic for basic health and antenatal care.

“Our children can now learn under former structures (classrooms). We shall continue to be grateful to you for solving our usual dry season problems, by providing us motorised boreholes.

“We in Baruten local government area and especially Okuta community has never had it this good, including positions being occupied by our sons and daughters.

“I therefore assure you of my community’s unalloyed support, loyalty and commitment to your administration.

“You have actually opened our eyes in kwara State,” he added.

He however appealed to the governor to look at their many other problems such as rehabilitation and reconstruction of the only Baruten Trunk A Road, rehabilitation of the major water projects, construction of modern ICT centers and science laboratories in each of Baruten’s four districts, declaration of Baruten as educationally disadvantaged and provide scholarship to the few less-privileged studying Medicine and Engineering.

The celebration also featured presentation of Awards to the governor and coronation of Alhaji AbdulAzeez Arowona as the new Shettima of Okuta kingdom.

Baba Boriya; Commissioner for Energy, Hon. Lafia Aliyu Kora Sabi; Commissioner for local government Chieftancy Affairs and Community Development, Arc. Muhammad Seifudeen; Special Assistant to the governor on Political Matters, Hon. Yusuf Abdulkareem Danhawa; Emir of Ilesha-Baruba, HRH, Prof. Halidu Abubakar; Emir of Kaiama, HRH Alhaji Muazu Sheu Umar; bigwigs in APC; sons and daughters of Okuta kingdom at home and in diaspora.
